Description

Course Overview:

The aim of our Group Violin course is to provide a basic introduction and progressive method for studying the art of violin playing as a leisure activity, with potential progression towards orchestra playing or individual lessons in the future.

Learning Outcome:

The curriculum is designed to encourage the development of all-round instrument skills, musical skills, ensemble skills and music theory.

Teaching Methods:

The course employs the Suzuki Violin method, incorporated with western guidance (A tune a day) that emphasises not only interesting pieces but also appropriately challenging ones for young violinists. Many students have thrived under the Suzuki system and achieved Distinctions in ABRSM music exams.

Prerequisites:

No prerequisites required.

Assessment methods:

An optional ABRSM Exam is available for recognised progress certification. The exams are usually held twice a year. Registration periods are in February for July – September exams and in October for February/March exams. The instructor will review students' progress before registering them for exams. Preparation for grades 1 and 2 typically takes a year, while grade 3 may require more than a year depending on the individual.

Required materials:

Personal violin.
